Why do you require a credit card to register and bid?
We want to ensure that all our bidders are valid, qualified bidders. In this way, we assure all bidders that every bidder has met the same conditions to be able to bid in our auctions.
Can I look at the items before bidding?
Each auction will have information regarding where the items are located, the name and telephone number of the contact person, and , if applicable, a scheduled preview time. You may preview auction items only during this time, NO EXCEPTIONS!! We may also ask photo ID of each person coming to our auction site when signing in.
Do you ship items?
We don’t offer shipping at this time. All winning bidders should bring their own tools, labor and transportation to remove the items. However, we offer shipping to our offline sales customers.
How long do I have to pick up my items?
Each auction has a deadline for pick-up. Review the auction terms carefully to make sure. Any items not picked up for specified time frame will be considered abandoned and the bidder might be charged not only the winning price but also removal fee.
What are bid increments?
A bid increments is the minimum amount required to raise the bid. For example, if the current bid on an item is $100, you must bid at least $105 to raise the bid. Bid increments are set at $1, $2.5, $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, $500 and $1000 based on the current bid level. You may not bid in increments smaller than the set bid increment for an item.
What if I change mind after bidding?
Bidding on an item is a contract that is enforceable in a court of law. We will pursue all legal remedies required to enforce this contract. The terms of usage prevent retraction of a bid once it has been made. If you are unsure about an item, DO NOT BID! No bids will be retracted.
Do I have to pay sales tax?
The states require us to collect sales tax for all applicable sales. If you believe you are entitled to an exemption, please fax us sales tax exempt certificate to 703-440-1082. It is the bidder’s responsibility to make sure that we have the right form on file before payment is made. No refunds of sales tax will be issued after payment has been made. Also, Maryland state doesn’t accept out of state tax exempt certificate.
How does the Auto-Extend feature work?
If an auction receives a bid in the last five minutes, the ending time for that auction will automatically be extended by five minutes. Once five minutes have passed without any bidding, the item will close. This feature prevents “sniping” and allows all bidders an equal opportunity to be the high bidder if they so choose.
How will I know if I am the high bidder?
We will send your invoice by email on auction end date. However, make sure our email address is safe not to be classified as junk mail so you’d have it in your inbox.
How do I pay?
We accept VISA, MASTERCARD, AMERICAN EXPRESS, and DISCOVER. You must have available balance on your credit card for your online purchasing. At the conclusion of the event, your credit card on file will be automatically charged for the entire amount of your purchase.
Can I submit bid offline?
No. Only online bids can be made.
Can Fairfaxauction.com cancel an event that has already started?
Yes. We reserves the right to; cancel, suspend, extend or reschedule an individual item or entire auction.
What happens if I break or damage property during removal?
It is the buyer’s responsibility to remove merchandise purchased without damage to the satisfaction of the property owner.
Is there a buyer's premium?
Yes, there is 15% buyer’s premium. The buyer’s premium is a fee paid by the bidder to fairfaxauction.com.
Is there warranty on items?
All items are sold As-is, where is, with no warranty, expressed or implied by the lot number affixed to the items. Descriptions are believed to be accurate but not guaranteed. You are bidding on descriptions not the photos.
Do you charge any fees for registration?
NEW BIDDER’S CREDIT CARD WILL BE AUTHORIZED FOR $100 WHICH WILL BE HELD FOR 24 HOURS. We do authorize your credit/debit card to assure you have a valid credit/debit card. The $100.00 authorization is similar to a hotel authorization.
